Long Trail, Vermont - Week 2

Long Trail Week 1

Monday, September 19: 16 miles

Clarendon Shelter to Rt 4.

Summit Killington, 2nd tallest mountain in Vermont. I walked to my car which was parked in a lot across from the Inn at the Long Trail. Hikers can park and camp there. I drove into Rutland and did some laundry and got dinner at the infamous Yellow Deli. Then I went back to set up camp across from the Inn.

Tuesday, September 20: Zero Day

My friend and fellow ridgerunner, Robin, met me in Rutland (we had just finished a season of ridgerunning on the Appalachian Trail). We spent the day together and had a good time at Murphy's pub at the Inn at the Long Trail that night. We slept in our cars that night across from the Inn.

Wednesday, September 21: 12.7 miles

Rt 4 to David Logan Shelter.

I passed Maine Junction where the AT and LT split. The AT turns East towards New Hampshire while the LT continues North to Canada. Robin hiked from another, closer access point to meet me at the shelter and camped with me for the night.

Thursday, September 22: 12.6 miles

David Logan Shelter to Sucker Brook Shelter.

Robin and I parted at the shelter, she went back down the side trail to her car and I continued on the Long Trail. Later I arrived at the road crossing at Brandon Gap where Robin had set up trail magic for hikers. My ridgerunner boss from the summer, Jim, who was hiking the LT SOBO (southbound) met us at the road. It was so awesome that we could all be there together! After a nice break we parted ways and I said bye to Robin and Jim.
