HAYDUKE ROUTE HIKE

Gear List

APRIL-may 2023

Campsite in the Grand Canyon

BIG 3

PACK: Mountain Hardwear Kanza 55 (I borrowed this 12 year old pack from my dad who only used it a few times. I wanted something with bigger capacity and something that I wouldn’t worry about damaging as I read that the packs get scraped up while bushwhacking and on canyon walls.)

SLEEPING BAG: Enlightened Equipment Revelation 20degree long/wide 850 quilt

TENT: 2016 Big Agnes Fly Creek 2

Gear with Grosvenor Arch in background

WATER BLADDER: 3- 1L Sawyer Bags, 1- 1L Platypus Bag, 2 gatorade water bottles (1 to scoop up water and 1 to use for drink mixes) total of 5L capacity

WATER FILTER: Sawyer Squeeze, backflush plunger, aqua mira drops for backup

Rope came in handy to lower my pack down and pull my pack up

FOOD: Since I was cold soaking for this hike I took the time to experiment with meals beforehand and prepackaged meals for food caches. Breakfast: oatmeal (with carnation instant breakfast chocolate powder, dry milk powder, peanut butter powder); muesli (with peanut butter powder, dry milk powder). Dinner: Soy Ramen; Rice & Beans (with dehydrated refried beans, instant rice, taco seasoning, nutritional yeast); Lentils & Couscous (with lentils, couscous, coconut milk powder, curry powder, nutritional yeast); Couscous Alfredo (with couscous, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, alfredo seasoning). Pack weight with 3&1/2 L of water but very little food was 28pounds. Figured with full food bag would be around 35 pounds.
