House & Pet Sitting

At the end of 2018 I coughed up 89 bucks and registered for the trustedhousesitters.com site. Even though it cost a fair amount to sign up they are right when they say it pays for it self. The amount of money I have saved by housesitting is well into the thousands (see my cost breakdown below). It took me a couple weeks to set my profile up which entailed writing a bio, getting a couple references, and providing a little information for a background verification (I did not do a background check). Then by February I applied for my first sit in Colorado. I believe I applied to a couple but didn’t get them either because I wasn’t one of the first to apply or they decided not to go away. I did however finally book a sit in Durango and started out on a road trip, which I discuss more here —> Ski Road Trip. While in Colorado I house & pet sat at three different homes for a total of 10 nights. It was a great experience and I vowed to keep doing it.

Fast forward to summer ‘19 when I was backpacking in Europe. I had decided to try and stay in Europe for 90 days but I was concerned with the costs that would bring so I looked to housesitting again. I applied to several sits in many different countries over my 3-month stay, but I ended up getting three sits in three different countries for a total of three weeks. They were all great experiences in spectacular locations and with super cute and friendly pets. While housesitting over there I started vlogging about my experience which I have since made into helpful videos found on my YouTube channel and down below. I go into much more detail in those videos sharing my process to find sits, the cost savings, and what I love about housesitting.

I’ve found that housesitting fits perfectly into my nomadic lifestyle and as someone who doesn’t have much money. Although I have limited finances I still make it a priority to travel and that’s why I am always looking for cheap travel hacks like car camping and using freecampsites.net, workaway gigs, and now housesitting. Housesitting has been an avenue where I can combine my love for visiting new places, seeing different homes, connecting with animals, and settling into an area for a time to where I feel like a local. It has worked out beautifully for me and I have every intention to keep housesitting into the future.

If you want to know more feel free to message me. And if you’re interested in trying it out here is my referral link. You get 25% off the registration fee and I get 2 free months. Win-win.
