Ljubljana

After learning how to pronounce the capital city (loo·bee·aa·nuh), I just had half a day to explore the smallest city on my trip, and I liked it most of all. I don’t think I’ve seen a town with as much outdoor cafe seating than Ljubljana and even for being the smallest city, the streets were filled and busy. I found it charming.

Lake Bled

I’m so glad I got out of the city to visit Lake Bled while in Slovenia. I had heard great things from friends who had been, and after touring capital cities back to back, it was nice to be outside by the water and near the mountains. I was surprised to learn that there is an Olympic Rowing Center at the lake and that they have hosted many world championships. I watched folks row singles while having a Hugo Spritz on an outdoor patio, and marveled and envied them their beautiful course. I could have rented a row boat and rowed out to the church on the island, and I would have loved to, but I enjoyed walking around the whole lake and taking breaks writing in my journal in the sun.
