Next Stop: Oslo, Norway, by way of overnight ferry. Highlight of the trip thus far!
I originally thought I’d travel from Copenhagen to Oslo by train but when I found out about the ferry I was sold. And when I realized I’d be sailing on the summer solstice it seemed meant to be. I looked forward to watching the sun set on the longest day of the year from the top deck while out at sea. And what a way to arrive in a new country, slowly, through the Oslofjord. I splurged a little to get a sea view cabin rather than take the cheapest option which would have been a windowless cabin below the car deck, and I’m glad I upgraded cause I woke up throughout the night to look out on the water. I loved it. In order to cut costs though I did skip on purchasing dinner and breakfast and instead brought food from the grocery store. I also didn't purchase any drinks at the bars, so I think the total cost of the room and transportation at $266 was a pretty good deal!
I only spent a brief time in Oslo, mainly checking out the Munch museum and preparing for the next stage of the trip. I found out that I could camp for free on an island in the Oslofjord, and so being me that’s what I did. Just had to take a $4 ferry to get out there. It was a nice weather weekend and lots of others had the same idea so it was busy but it was free!
