Giardia Wiggle

🎶 "Giardia Wiggle" written by The Ridgerunners: Sara "TideWalker" Leibold and Sierra "Nutella" Pratt. Inspired and adapted from "Jiggle Jiggle" by Louis Theroux, Duke & Jones. Performed and edited by Sara. Filmed by Sierra. Set Location: Appalachian Trail

🎼Lyrics: “My water source don’t trickle trickle, it flows. Giardia’s not fickle fickle, fo sho. It makes me need to wiggle wiggle, you know. Hiking on the trail, you’re really gonna smell. 14 states in a row no slack (pack). I’ve got everything I need in my back (pack).”

🎼BEHIND THE MUSIC: I was out hiking a stretch of the Appalachian Trail, working as a ridgerunner, with the tune of "Jiggle Jiggle" stuck in my head, when inspiration hit. I came up with the first line, "my water source don't trickle trickle, it flows" to the tune of “my money don’t jiggle jiggle it folds” and knew it would be a hit ;) I came up with a few more lines, but approached my fellow ridgerunner, Sierra, for help workshopping the song. Together we came up with "Giardia Wiggle" and the rest, my friends, is history...The end of our seasonal job working on trail was coming to a close and our schedules just so happened to align so that we would be on trail together, which then lead to the opportunity to film this most excellent piece of art. Many laughs were shared in the making of this video and I hope it brings joy to you!

🌈THE MORE YOU KNOW: Giardia is a tiny parasite (germ) that causes the diarrheal disease giardiasis. Giardia is found on surfaces or in soil, food, or water that has been contaminated with feces (poop) from infected people or animals. You can get giardiasis if you swallow Giardia germs. Giardia spreads easily and can spread from person to person or through contaminated water, food, surfaces, or objects. The most common way people get sick is by swallowing contaminated drinking water or recreational water (for example, lakes, rivers, or pools). [Source: https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/giardia/index.html] Thru-hikers are susceptible to giardia if they don't filter their water on trail.
